So, let's go totally and completely Pro-Life here. Not just on the abortion issues, but all life issues. War, Capital Punishment, Health, Safety, Food, Water, Shelter, Space Travel, Sports, Risk Taking, Guns and all other weapons, and Abortion of course. Now let's start with that. To be truly Pro-Life on abortion is to advocate for outlawing all abortion, all forms of abortion, all reasons for abortion being rejected, and to advocate for the reduction to zero of all forms of abortion, induced or otherwise. If we wish to be morally and logically consistent, once we have defined what an abortion is, is it the death of a conception, or a conception that has implanted in the womb, is it an even later state of development? Let's go to the farthest point and say that an abortion is the death of a conception, regardless of how it happened. And let us also say, going to the extreme, that a conception is the same as a person, a human being, with all the rights that we grant to such beings. Now, that being said, what are the implications of taking that stand?
1. Obviously we’ll need to outlaw all forms of abortion since abortion would now be murder. If the abortion was natural for whatever reason, that would mean the death of a person, and it would have to be reported and investigated to make sure it really was “natural”. We would also have to establish that now deceased person in our formal records, names, etc., and “dispose” of them in a respectful manner. This could be difficult for the very early abortions since the woman may not have even known that they were carrying another person inside them but well get to that later.
2. All forms of creation of a conception outside of the womb would be banned unless that conception would not be harmed and could survive long enough to be implanted in the womb. Since current IVF techniques can do no such thing, and destroys conceptions, as well as freezing them for years at a time during which they eventually die, that’s out. I suspect very few would want to even take the risk of such a thing since if the conception died that would be a potential murder or manslaughter charge.
3. Also, any form of birth control that has the potential to cause an abortion are out.
4. Any medical procedure that might cause the death of a conception would also have to banned, at least as long as the woman was pregnant. In this case nature would have to be allowed to take its course.
5. Anyone participating or authorizing or performing an abortion, regardless of why, would be guilty of murder, especially the woman who sought an illegal abortion. All of the same legal penalties that apply for the killing of a child would apply here, with the exception of the Death Penalty since that would break the absolute Pro-Life stance.
6. Since we would now be requiring all rape and incest victims who became pregnant by such acts to carry to term, a key incentive would be to immediately and automatically terminate any relationship between the victim and perpetrator, as well as terminate any future parental rights to any children produced in this manner.
So there we have it, the big six legal implications of Abortion as Murder. Now, since abortion in all forms and for all reason would be illegal, since it is murder, we’d have to support all things to the hilt that might keep the need for abortion from happening, the key to which, oddly enough, would be Family Planning. We’d want to make sure that every pregnancy was wanted, every time if possible. The way to achieve that would be:
1. To make the prosecution for an induced abortions very public. We’d need examples of just how long you’d be facing in jail for such acts and we’d need to publicize them so that every girl, young woman, and adult women knew what they were facing.
2. All spontaneous abortions that were known to have occurred must be thoroughly investigated, and the deceased recorded and buried in an appropriate manner.
3. All forms of non-procreative sexuality would need to be emphasized, and age-appropriate comprehensive sexual education taught to all children, regardless of their parent’s wishes. Ignorance and pro-creative sexual acts before a child was wanted would create a demand for illegal induced abortions. These forms would have to include support for homosexuality, mutual masturbation, anal sex, oral sex, pornography, sexual devices to aid masturbation, and the wide distribution of barrier-type birth control that could protect both against accidental pregnancy and any STDs that can accompany anal and oral sex. The basic message would have to be if you must have sex then do it with the same sex, use your mouth and anus, or one of you has to keep their underpants on at all times. Your mouth can’t get pregnant would be a good Public Service Ad.
With these steps in place you should be able to reduce the number of people charged with murder for an abortion to a manageable number of say, 50 to 100,000 women per year. And it should be noted that since childbirth, especially for the very young, is many times more dangerous than a legal abortion, more maternal deaths are to be expected and must be accepted as the cost of outlawing all induced abortions, just as there will be more deaths from woman attempting to abort on their own, and more deaths from women who might have been saved, or their future potential to make children saved, by a therapeutic induced abortion. Lastly, there will be women who die as the result of being unable to take the same medical treatments as those women who are not pregnant. All of this will simply have to be accepted as the cost of doing business.
If you are truly Pro-Life on abortion, and this is not an attempt to scare anyone away from that position, just a plan for being morally and logically consistent in regards to abortion, all of the above must occur. If you really want to ban all induced abortions, this is the world such a thing would make. I'm okay with it actually. It would work, but a lot of people who call themselves Pro-Life now would not be able to tolerate such things. For the Pro-Lifers, that is something you should think on...
